Why Your Ryker or Spyder Shows a Fuel Code When the Immobilizer Is Armed
If you've tried to start your Can-Am Ryker or Spyder while your Phantom Shield immobilizer is armed, you may have seen a fuel-delivery fault code on the dash. Here's what's going on.
How the immobilizer stops the bike from starting
- Can-Am Ryker: the Phantom Shield Anti-Theft Immobilizer with Remote blocks starting until you press unlock on the fob.
- Can-Am Spyder: the Phantom Shield Proximity Immobilizer blocks starting unless the fob is present.
When the immobilizer is armed, it cuts the fuel pump. With no fuel pump, the bike won't start.
Why a fuel code shows up
Because the fuel pump is cut while the immobilizer is armed, the bike may show a fuel-delivery fault code if someone tries to start it. That's the immobilizer doing its job.
Is something wrong with my bike or the immobilizer?
No. The code clears on its own, and it isn't a fault with the product or the bike.
How to start normally
- Ryker: press unlock on the fob before you start.
- Spyder: make sure you have the fob with you.
